Deploying Wastewater Monitoring at Scale
Continuous visibility. Zero guesswork.
Rapidly deployable sensors and platform designed for reliable monitoring of manholes, chambers, and network assets.
The Problem - Wastewater Monitoring Challenges
Utilities are responsible for monitoring and maintaining vast wastewater networks, often with limited personnel and constrained budgets, while facing increasing pressure from climate change, urbanization, and aging infrastructure.
From back-ups and CSOs/SSOs to pollution events, inflow & infiltration, blockages, and surcharging, there is almost always an incident waiting to happen.
But existing sensing tools and software are often too expensive to purchase, install, maintain, and integrate, and are simply clunky to use.
Could scalable, network-wide monitoring be the answer?
The Solution - Scalable Monitoring with Level Sensors
Our low-cost, long-life, and easy-to-install level sensors enable affordable, network-wide monitoring, helping utilities respond proactively and plan ahead. Whether you are modelling an entire catchment or monitoring a small number of hotspot locations, it has never been easier to deploy at scale using our ManholeMonitor level sensors and Porthole platform, which deliver real-time and predictive alerts via email and text.
What could you achieve with this data?
Provide peace of mind to home and business owners and environmental compliance officers.
Equip planning teams with reliable data to calibrate hydraulic models and deliver capital improvement projects.
Give field crews greater visibility so not every call becomes urgent.
Our solution delivers unprecedented affordable, scalable monitoring through low system costs and simple installation, maintenance, and integration.
We offer transparent, affordable pricing, typically around 1/10 the lifetime cost of traditional monitoring solutions, enabled by simpler deployment, reduced maintenance, and lower overall system costs.
Cost - Affordable Monitoring at Scale
Our pricing formula is as simple as 1, 2, 3:
(1) The sensor
(2) Mounting accessories (bracket, optional external antennas)
(3) A single annual fee per sensor, that includes data transmission and full access to the Porthole platform, with all alerts and analytics included
There are no additional charges, and API access is included at no extra cost. Please get in touch for more pricing details.
Installation - Fast and Simple Sensor Deployment
Confined space entry? Tripods? Drilling through the lid? Externally mounted antennas? Power supply? Forget all of that.
The ManholeMonitor is a top-mounted unit and can be installed by just about anyone in 5-10 minutes, using standard tools, supported by a dedicated installation app (iOS and Android) that guides you through the installation process, capturing essential data such as site location, photos, invert levels.
The unit is fully integrated, with its own battery and antenna, enabling simple, self-contained deployment. An external antenna connection is also available for use in low-signal environments or deeper installations.
Multiple mounting options are supported. The most common is our universal stainless steel bracket (A), which allows easy adjustment along its arm using integrated magnets. Other options include magnetic mounting (B) to the underside of manhole covers (ideal for hinged lids), and strapping to grated covers or pipe (C & D).
Because installation is fast and straightforward, sensors can be easily repositioned. Designed with field crews in mind, deployment can often be completed during routine site visits, reducing the need for additional time or resources.
Operation & Maintenance - Long-Term Reliability
Our sensors have a 10+ year battery life, supporting a longer return on investment horizon and reducing the need for ongoing maintenance, significantly longer than alternative monitoring solutions where battery replacement can exceed the cost of the unit itself.
The sensor offers a level reading range of 1-33ft (0.3–10m) using radar measurements, with an accuracy of ±0.04 in (1mm), making it suitable for most sewer and chamber environments.
With an IP68 rating and an operating temperature range of -40 to +140°F (-40 to +60°C), the unit is designed to withstand harsh conditions, including surcharging and full submersion.
Integration — Wastewater Data Management
No existing internal platform? No problem. Porthole can operate fully standalone, giving you the full benefit of the system without relying on other tools.
The system provides real-time alerts for level and rate of change, as well as predictive alerts for blockages, I&I, flooding, and silt build-up across sanitary, stormwater, and combined networks, using historic level and rainfall data from each sensor.
Do you already have digital systems? Our API is included, allowing you to integrate sensor data directly into existing SCADA or data visualisation platforms.
