Continuous Visibility, Zero Guesswork: Rethinking Wastewater Network Monitoring

ManholeMetrics Founder and CEO Will Dubin recently joined Phil Alsop, Editor of Water Magazine, to discuss the future of wastewater network monitoring and the thinking behind our mission of continuous visibility and zero guesswork. 

As utilities face increasing pressure from aging infrastructure, urbanization and climate change, having a clearer understanding of what is happening across sewer and stormwater networks is becoming increasingly important. 

Making network-wide sensing more accessible

A key focus of the conversation was how advances in low-cost sensing are making it increasingly practical to monitor more of the wastewater network. 

ManholeMetrics was built around this idea: making monitoring simple, rapidly deployable and economical to give utilities greater visibility across their networks. 

Our ManholeMonitor sensors work alongside the Porthole™ platform to provide real-time data and insights into conditions within sewer and stormwater systems. Together, they are designed to help utilities better understand what is happening below ground and support more proactive decision-making. 

Rapid deployment, reliable data

Will and Phil also discussed the importance of being able to deploy sensors quickly and the economics of monitoring at scale. 

For network-wide sensing to be practical, technology needs to be straightforward to install, reliable in challenging environments and capable of delivering useful data without the cost and complexity traditionally associated with monitoring infrastructure. 

The conversation also explores how ManholeMetrics can operate as a standalone monitoring solution or integrate with existing data platforms already used by utilities.
